The Blueprint Way: 3 Account Management Takeaways For Project Controls

Account management plays a pivotal role in successful delivery for any project controls consultant. When it comes to the dynamic nature of the project controls sector, the account manager is often the unsung hero; The glue that holds each part of a project together.

Our clients, both current and potential, know exactly what to expect from a partnership with Blueprint. By establishing continuity throughout our messaging and client interactions over the years, we’ve been able to distil our values into a ‘feeling’ or ‘way’.

Let’s take a closer look at what makes the ‘Blueprint way’ unique. Drawing from his industry experience, our key account manager, Imerdeep Rehlon, covers his three significant takeaways for successful project delivery.

1) The lasting value of human connection

Communication is undeniably at the heart of our account management practices. Ensuring that the human aspect of communication is at the forefront of all interactions, we always guarantee to have regular client meetings in place.

At Blueprint, we want our clients to know who their key points of contact are and which project controls consultants they have available locally to support them. By creating a strong sense of visibility, trust can be established between client and team.

This also translates through to our team who will be working on the account.  An account manager provides regular communications with the team, ensuring each team member is onboarded smoothly, as well as assisting with team development plans, and being a clear point of contact for any questions.

This emphasis on both client and team interaction is solidified through our core company values. We’ve specifically chosen ‘Nurture’ as a value, to represent our focus on making time for our clients and our people.

2) Adaptability is essential

Our account management thrives on continuous learning. We know and acknowledge that each client is an individual, with unique needs; Adaptability ensures that while we maintain our core values, we can tailor a bespoke approach to meet those specific needs.

Imerdeep's career has been built on this principle, and it fosters shared knowledge across the team. By learning from other professionals, we gain a deeper appreciation for each role and build upon industry expertise.

Imerdeep shares: 'Having worked across different sectors and types of projects, I've learned to adapt quickly to all sorts of situations. That adaptability is key to the success of the Blueprint way.’

Interacting with others whilst maintaining an open mindset is something that we feel is important for our team to do; To be able to adapt to the specific needs and requirements of a client is a skill that our account managers at Blueprint inherently display.

3) Leveraging, but also balancing, technology

When it comes to technology and the rise of digital communications, the role of account management once again requires an adaptable approach. For Imerdeep, this shift towards technology requires a careful balance. “I can't see the role that I'm doing being replaced fully by a digital solution, because people like to work with other people.”  The human touch, Imerdeep argues, is irreplaceable.

As online meetings are increasingly becoming the norm, and even sometimes the preferred option, how does an account manager or project controls consultant ensure that a personalised and human essence is not lost? For us, the importance of structure is always emphasised; If client meetings are conducted virtually, we have an approach in place that helps to replicate the natural flow found during face-to-face conversations.

At Blueprint, we acknowledge the value that technology can provide. The solution, it seems, lies in striking a balance - focusing on maintaining real, human connections with clients, but not being afraid to harness technology when required.

The Blueprints of account management

An account manager holds the tools that allow a business to both maintain and nurture client relationships as well as promoting company values and ethics, which in turn drives business growth.

Account management doesn’t just foster client loyalty—it sets Blueprint apart in the industry. By prioritising a people-focused approach, we continue to deliver effective project controls consultancy that drives results. What sets us apart? It’s our commitment to communication and partnership at every step.
