Meet the experts who deliver our project controls training courses

The secret ingredient to our bespoke in-person project controls training courses is our expert team of trainers, accredited by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB).
Our team of 12 certified trainers has decades of hands-on project controls experience, actively working on major infrastructure, energy, and defence projects. They have designed and mentored learners through bespoke training materials in line with ECITB standards, all within our dedicated training facility in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.
In this blog, we want to introduce a handful of our talented team of trainers, outline what goes into ECITB accreditation, and share what learners can expect from taking part in our expert-led training modules.

What does it mean to be an ECITB-accredited trainer?
Each one of our subject matter specialists holds decades of hands-on practical site experience and is ECITB-accredited. This means they not only hold insight and expertise from working on major schemes but are dedicated to their own continued professional development (CPD).
The ECITB aims to enhance skills on behalf of the engineering and construction industry in the UK, and each one of our trainers has gone through its rigorous assessments, demonstrating their expertise to deliver and develop high-quality courses in line with best practices.

“ Working with accredited trainers gives learners the confidence that Blueprint trainers are credible. Their years of experience and training have been vetted by the ECITB checking the industries they’ve worked in and that they are qualified.”
Blueprint consultant and academy lead Arthur Redwood.
What are the benefits of project controls CPD?
Project controls CPD is not just nice to have, but essential for any project manager or consultant working on large construction and engineering schemes. All of Blueprint’s modules are designed to meet the ECITB Level 3 training standards and are delivered in person so learners can feel fully engaged with the materials and our trainers.
With a demand for increasingly complex infrastructure projects, project controls professionals need to be highly skilled and trained in estimation, cost, planning, change, and risk management. Read how our trainers equip learners on our suite of training courses with these key skills below.
Meet (some!) of Blueprint’s accredited trainers

Martin Holmes: QRA and Planning
Martin, our technical director for planning and quantitative risk analysis (QRA) has almost 20 years of project control experience, working across nuclear, energy, rail, and defence.
As a mentor on our ECITB-accredited course Introduction to Planning, he takes learners through a five-day course that explores the theory of planning, and how it impacts the successful delivery of a project. Not only do learners benefit from Martin’s insight and knowledge, but will have the opportunity to build a mock schedule to be presented at the end of the course.
Read what our students think in our Introduction to Planning module handbook.

Nick Morgan-Jones: Cost estimation
Estimating technical lead Nick Morgan-Jones has two decades of experience as a highly qualified project controls manager, estimator, and risk manager, working on nuclear power station fleets across operations, defueling, and decommissioning projects. He is committed to the ever-evolving practice of cost estimation, sitting on the panel responsible for implementing a new ‘British Standard for Estimation’.
With his wealth of experience, from section manager at Center Parcs to site engineering on newly built military barracks in Algeria, he is perfectly placed to lead our Introduction to Cost Estimating course. The ECITB-accredited module looks at building an accurate estimate and how doing so impacts other project controls and management disciplines.

Emily Bolton: Change control and baseline management
With 10 years of project controls experience, senior consultant Emily works across major construction and defence projects, covering change control and risk analysis.
Change control, which is the process managers undergo to alter the approved baseline of a project, is an essential project controls function that any seasoned professional should be equipped to deliver. As an accredited trainer for our Introduction to Change Management course, she brings learners up to speed on its purpose and how to deliver it successfully.

Sam Willerton: Cost management
Senior consultant Sam has more than 13 years of project controls experience, with a specialism in cost management across sectors including defence, nuclear, and construction.
Designing and teaching our Introduction to Cost Management course, Sam has found learners walk away feeling confident to track and analyse finances throughout a project’s lifecycle.
As part of the day course, learners have the chance to undertake a cost control exercise for a mock project, where they produce a report covering three months to inform the team of progress against the budget.
Did you know?
When completed alongside our Introduction to Budgeting and Cost Control training, this qualifies as an ECITB-accredited course.

Johanna Barton: Risk management
Blueprint’s associate director Johanna has more than 20 years of experience in risk management in a range of sectors including defence and construction.
Teaching our ECITB-accredited course, Introduction to Risk Management, she equips learners to develop a rigid risk process to identify, assess, and respond to risks across a project's lifecycle.
